Professional Pet Groomer Course, Curriculum Outline
Introduction Orientation An introduction to the pet care industry, grooming, and breed identification will be conducted. There will be a description of the school environment including school policies, procedures regulations and safety procedures
Selection and Care of Equipment A detailed presentation of the equipment used in the grooming profession will be presented. The student will be taught how to select the proper tool for each grooming operation. The maintenance and proper sanitation of grooming equipment will be discussed in detail.
Pet First Aid and CPR You will receive training in Pet First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. This is a valuable skill to have during the course of your pet-grooming career!
Safety and Sanitation Safety precautions to be followed in the grooming salon and the importance of proper sanitation will be discussed in detail.
Animal Psychology and Temperament The behavior, socialization and the methods of dealing with dogs and in the grooming environment will be presented.
Proper Handling and Restraining Techniques Demonstrations of the utilization of correct restraining techniques will be demonstrated. Procedures for instilling basic pet obedience will be shown. The importance of maintaining patience will be emphasized.
Animal Physiology The basic anatomy of dogs will be described. A description of animal physiology will be presented.
Skin Disorders and Parasites The student will be taught to recognize common skin problems and the causes of these ailments.
Cat Grooming The course will include training in and hands on experience in the grooming of cats.
Shop Operation and Management The dynamics of running a successful pet grooming business will be taught. This will include, shop operation, pricing, record keeping, client relations, and professional business etiquette. For those interested in opening there own business after graduation a highly skilled business consultant will present a lecture on the important elements of business management
Creative Grooming Grooming patterns will be shown for all popular breeds of dogs and cats. The entire grooming process including, prepping, bathing, drying, and finishing will be demonstrated and practiced. Creative grooming for mixed breeds, poodles, longhaired and purebred patterns, including poodle, etc., will be taught.
Practical Experience There will be many hours of hands on practical grooming experience practicing what was taught in class. Periodic written and practical tests will be conducted to determine the progress of each student and to assure that the required educational objectives are being met. Special attention is given to each student.
Class Size Classes are limited to eight students. This allows each student to receive personalized instruction and tutoring.
School Schedule We are offering four nine week courses and one twelve week course during 2008. The remaining course in 2007 is a nine week course. The nine week course is conducted Monday thru Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM. The twelve week course is scheduled Monday thru Thursday, 9:00 AM until 3:45 PM
Additional Courses Offered by Our School Advanced Courses We offer advanced courses of a shorter term for those of you with grooming experience and previous training. These course are designed individually to enhance your grooming skills. Please contact us for further information

Your instructors are recognized leaders in the pet grooming industry. All are Nationally Certified Master All Breed Pet Groomers. Our Director of Training and Assistant Instructor won 1st and 2nd place respectively in the grooming competition sponsored by the National Dog Groomers Association in 2006.
They all have won numerous awards for their grooming skills. Each has over 20 years experience. All have owned and operated their own grooming salons in the past.
You will learn this exciting skill from the weeks of formal instruction and by working closely with these skilled professionals during the course of training

Jennie Smith, Director of Training
Jennie has been a Nationally Certified Master Groomer since 1995. She has won numerous awards for her artistic grooming skills including winning first place in the 2006 grooming competition sponsored by the National Pet Groomers Association.
She is all breed show handler and a breeder of champion dogs. She currently breeds and shows champion Pomeranians.
She has owned and operated 3 successful grooming salons. She began her career at a very early age managing boarding kennels. Jennie has been grooming pets professionally since 1988.
Jennie has outstanding teaching skills which enables her to share her wealth of artistic design and technical expertise with her students.
Jennie has some fluency in the Spanish Language

Christine Johnson, Manager Classy Pup Grooming Salon and Assistant Instructor
Christine is a Nationally Certified Master Groomer.She has won many awards for her grooming skills including winning 2nd place in the National Pet Groomer Association grooming competition in 2006.
Christine has over 20 years of experience as a professional groomer. She owned and operated her own successful grooming salon for 9 years. She is the manager of the Classy Pup Grooming Salon co located with the Classy Pet Grooming School
Christine currently breeds and shows champion Golden Retrievers. She is also certified as a Companion Animal Hygienist. |

Astrid founded the Classy Pet/Pup concept over 20 years ago in Hawaii where she operated 3 pet grooming salons and cared for animals undergoing the state mandated 6 month quarantine.
“Asti” opened the Classy Pup Grooming Salon 15 years ago in Loveland Colorado. In 1995 she initiated the state licensed, Classy Pet Grooming School. She has been working in the animal care industry for over 30 years and has earned many awards for her efforts.
Her businesses are based on the principles of, customer service, integrity and fairness to all concerned. She makes every effort to provide the highest quality of instruction and the best learning atmosphere possible for the students attending our classes.
“Asti is an expert equestrian who trains both horses and riders. She has traveled throughout the world pursuing her interests in animals and nature. This has including exploring some of the most remote areas in Alaska, Kenya, Central America and Asia.
She is fluent in the German Language and has some knowledge of Spanish.
